A 47-year-old South Carolina man has been charged federally for allegedly threatening to kill former President Donald Trump.
Travis Keith Lang, of Irmo, South Carolina, was arrested Thursday and arraigned in a Columbia courthouse on Friday.
He pleaded not guilty and was denied bond.
According to WLTX-TV, Lang is currently being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
His indictment, filed Tuesday, alleges he threatened to “take the life of, kidnap, and inflict bodily harm upon the President of the United States.”
The U.S. Secret Service is leading the investigation.
“Ensuring the safety of the President and all of our protectees is a fundamental duty of the Secret Service, and we remain committed to this responsibility,” said Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi in a statement to Fox News Digital. He also thanked South Carolina law enforcement for their assistance in the case.
Guglielmi urged the public to report any potential threats against public officials, emphasizing that vigilance and cooperation are key to national security.
Lang’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 14 for a bond hearing.
In 2023, Lang filed with the Federal Election Commission to run for president as a Republican. However, he did not qualify for any primary ballots, and his only campaign contribution was $6,000 from his own funds, according to FEC records.
If convicted, Lang could face up to five years in prison, according to the South Carolina Daily Gazette, citing the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Lang’s Facebook page still displays “Travis Lang for President,” with his profile picture showing a split image of his face and Abraham Lincoln.
He has also been openly critical of President Joe Biden, at one point in 2023 calling for his impeachment on Facebook.
A U.S. attorney told the court that Lang had previously made multiple threats against both Trump and Biden. The Secret Service had previously visited him and warned him to stop making such threats, according to reports.
